My added tips:

  • Take advantage of your local gym or club that specializes in cross training. The Vault
  • Find a local park and get busy. Some parks even have stations set up! 
  • Practice running in dirt and mud BEFORE the event so you know the feel and are ready for it.
  • Hydrate hydrate hydrate
  • Get adequate rest the day before
  • get over trying to be “pretty” out there

  1. I know this post is old, but great info! I did my first OCR this spring on a whim, hadn’t trained for it at all. It had been raining, so it was literally trudging through 6 inches of mud for 3 miles. Man, I discovered all new muscles that could be sore! I’m currently working on getting pull-ups, specifically, and getting stronger, so I can do more OCR.
