Down On The Boardwalk

Beautiful but busy day! Headed down to the boardwalk for a quick run with the hubby in between the other plans and responsibilities we had to take care of today 💙 It gets so busy down at the boardwalk during tourist season, which is nearly here. So we decided to get in a beach run. It was already bustling with early vacationers and spring breakers. I admit I love the energy vibe down here during tourist season, but my other half, not so much lol.

 

 

 

 

A quick tip for anyone wanting to head to Virginia Beach for a vacation? The months of March, April, and October are usually less crowded and the hotels are at lower rates. But be warned, March & April the ocean may still be a bit chilly. October though you still have warm waters! Just no sign of lifeguards. Today though people were in the water! Swimmers, surfers and kids playing around. It was kinda awesome!

The hubby did his thing and I did mine. We run at different paces and I do the whole run/walk/run so we went separate ways once we were there. But it was absolutely beautiful! Temps hit the 80’s, sunny with a nice cool breeze, perfect run weather!

It’s all about building endurance and strengthening my legs. And of course conditioning these lungs of mine. Four packs of cigarettes a day does some serious damage. Quit NOW, if you smoke. That damage just increases as time goes by. So happy I quit and never going back.

Days like today make me so thankful I quit smoking. Breathing the fresh air, smoke free is profoundly different. And smelling the ocean breeze, yeah that’s good stuff!

HOW TO WALK FASTER

Here is the procedure:

  1. Usually done during the middle of a recovery “walk day” between runs or during the warm down walk on a running day.
  2. Warm up by walking very gently for at least 5 minutes – then do the following Drill.
  3. For 10-20 seconds, pick up the cadence of the walk by shortening stride.
  4. Walk gently for 30 seconds.
  5. Keep alternating segments, finding a cadence or rhythm that is quicker.
  6. Ease back on the cadence if you lose smoothness.
  7. First day, do this for ten minutes.
  8. Increase by 3-4 minutes on each successive session.
  9. Goal is to have 20-30 minutes total in this workout.
  10. Do this once or twice a week to maintain adaptations.

He really is the better half 💗 My super amazing hubby likes to surprise me with gifts. Which he knows I love because they are unplanned, spur of the moment and not given at the traditional birthday, Christmas, Yule, etc…. We exchange gifts for those too, but he likes me to feel pampered and will get me things I would never spend the money on because “they aren’t practical”. And he wants more for me.

So after opening my super awesome presents I decided a great accompaniment  to the fruit would be a nice hot cup of semi-homemade cider. The apples are wrapped in chocolate and caramel so the sound of cider along with the fruit sounded so good! So I made some cider!

Throw It Together Quick Cider

4-5 cups apple juice

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

a couple drops of artificial caramel, or rum flavoring, to taste (optional)

garnish with a cinnamon stick or apple slice (if you have it and want to make it pretty)

 

Heat the apple juice and spices in a small pot, stir over medium heat, reducing heat as it starts to get hotter. Keep stirring so the spices fully dissolve or you will have clumps in your cider. Last, before removing from heat add in the artificial  flavoring if adding it, stir for a moment or two. Serve hot and enjoy a cozy cup of autumnautumn_leaves_png3582

 

 

What A Nice Day!!

The day has been so gorgeous outside!! I had some errands to run this morning and I was just loving the coolish windy warm weather!! Today’s a strength day though so I knew I would eventually be headed back inside 😏 but I was determined to take my sweet time about it lol.

For the holidays I will be whipping up some gifts via my kitchen so I needed to get started buying some ingredients! You know every year things like canned pumpkin start to run in low supplies and I am really excited to be doing some “from scratch” canning and baking this year for gifts. I love to bake! One day I WILL enroll in classes or even a program for culinary arts, but till then I will have to let love take over where skills fall short lol. Anyway, recipes will eventually show up here on my blog!

I am super happy right now seeing these photo’s. Over the last few months I had gained a lot of weight from stress eating and NOT managing it very well. Another reason I am trying to get nutrition back on point, including what I’m doing for holiday food gifting!! So in the photo I have on the INKnBURN Club Tech and Run Or Die Capris, gorgeous colors aren’t they??? But those darn capris I haven’t fit into for over a month 😥 and they are one of my favorites! But yayyyy, they fit, they fit again!! I was determined I wasn’t sizing up on anything.

I couldn’t procrastinate anymore, I had to stop it with all that fresh air stuff                  and get the deed done!

I guess that pic turned out a wee blurry when I resized it (my phone takes monster size photo’s) but it says, “honor the run and respect the strength days”. As much as I wanted to be out working on my run I knew I had to focus on what was planned in my training. So that elliptical was waiting for me, as was a little Les Mills Grit.

no really it builds lean muscle. And that lean muscle helps you burn calories faster, be a better runner and is a heart healthy dose of goodness that will get your blood pumping and your heart rate in the zone (and that’s a good thing)!

Then, I went back outside for a short walk, yes walk, it’s not any kinda run day!

My sweet sweet hubby bought me a “just because” gift. And I guess I should have taken off my other necklaces but, ignore the top strand, and ignore the bottom strand, and everything in between is one necklace of multiple strands. And I couldn’t love it more 💗 I’ve had it on my wishlist forever!!!  I love this guy so much!

So all in all it’s been a productive happy day! And the day isn’t even half way over yet!
