When we get out of the glass bottles of our ego, and when we escape like squirrels turning in the cages of our personality and get into the forests again, we shall shiver with cold and fright
but things will happen to us
so that we don’t know ourselves.
Cool, unlying life will rush in,
and passion will make our bodies taut with power,
we shall stamp our feet with new power
and old things will fall down,
we shall laugh, and institutions will curl up like
Hope your weekend was ️🎉️🎊 fabulous! We were SUPER busy! Between shopping 😄parties️ ️🎵 , getting my hair color done 💇🏽🤳🏽, fireworks displays 🎇🎆 and squeezing in workouts 💪🏽🏃🏽🚶🏽🏃🏽🏋️🏽 , we had a long weekend. I gave myself the luxury of sleeping in a little today. But now I have a ton of email to catch up on!
But you know, new found discipline and all, the weekends festivities allowed for a little indulgence, my favorite this weekend had to be 😋🍞Samoan Pani Popo (Samoan Coconut Rolls) that our friend Rachel made. They were soooooo good! Definitely a special treat. I’m pretty sure her recipe is a handed down family recipe but I did find this one in case your interested (Pani Popo recipe). I usually don’t eat much at all with white sugar, so this was an indulgence for sure. But when you keep your nutrition super clean it’s something you can do once in a while and really enjoy the experience!
The fireworks display at Mt Trashmore Park was really nice. I completely forgot to take a video like I usually do with firework displays 😞 but my hubby snagged a few good shots! We had rain threatening all night but the show still went on!
I hope everywhere implements what a town in Italy did this year, silent fireworks! I guess it is growing in popularity not only because of animals becoming fearful but for vets who suffer from PTSD as well. Not to mention how hard it must be for shift workers, elderly and those who may be sick to try and sleep through even if it’s only a half hour or so. More about ….silent fireworks, here.
We didn’t really get many other photo’s 📸 from this weekend though. The bbq parties were pretty chill and laid back. Just good friends hanging out eating, talking playing some 🎮 Mario Kart and wishing we could have played corn hole, darn rain🌦️⛈️. And when we worked out we really just did fit the workouts in when and where we could so I wasn’t thinking 💡 photo/video inspiration, just quick lets get it done!
Now today seriously feels like a Monday and my day started slowwwwwwly lol. Time to get it into gear!! So today I’m gonna 😉💪🏽 “Dig Deep” with more #shaunweek and try and get a run 🏃🏽🚶🏽🏃🏽 in, in between some rain drops 🌦️! I’m planning doubles all week though. A great weekend enjoyed deserves a extra attention to doing what’s right for your body post-weekend. So time to focus and get back in the game!
😢 So many people who are doing a fitness program who indulge over a weekend or party, can get mad at themselves and throw in the towel on their whole plan for living healthier and doing what their body needs them to do. They figure, I messed it all up.
This is actually the time when you prove to yourself all you’ve learned with respecting your body, your journey and the whole process. You aren’t perfect and there’s a lot of temptations out there that will steer you off your goals. So after a a little, or even a lot of indulgence, don’t feel you are defeated ️🥊😢. Instead get back at it, re-dedicate yourself. Do a little extra and fine tune your nutrition 😅🥗. This is also the time to put a mental check ✔️ in your mind that the next time an event is coming up where you know you may want to indulge…
Do it mindfully. Don’t eat a huge piece of cake, eat a small one. Load up on the salad and small portions with the more calorie laden foods.
Double up on your fitness the few days before and a few days after
Keep your goals in mind and weight them against the temptations you will meet face to face. Choose wisely!
☔ I’m headed out now to get that run in, it’s looking like the rain’s coming sooner than later! I’ll be back later today! So how was your weekend?
We are very good at preparing to live, but not very good at living. We know how to sacrifice ten years for a diploma, and we are willing to work very hard to get a job, a car, a house, and so on. But we have difficulty remembering that we are alive in the present moment, the only moment there is for us to be alive.<<<

I’ve been a RAKtivist for a few years now. And I usually don’t publicize my random acts. Many of which are either through volunteer work, or donations but I think it’s a crucial piece of personal development and social development if we take part. Of course people do kind things all the time on their own without having a group, or movement to tell them to do so. But the act of “joining” in and of itself serves at that little reminder as we start to get bogged down with our own busy days to stop and take a moment to reach out in some small way, big or small, to make a positive impact in the world we share with one another.

Beautiful but busy day! Headed down to the boardwalk for a quick run with the hubby in between the other plans and responsibilities we had to take care of today 💙 It gets so busy down at the boardwalk during tourist season, which is nearly here. So we decided to get in a beach run. It was already bustling with early vacationers and spring breakers. I admit I love the energy vibe down here during tourist season, but my other half, not so much lol.
A quick tip for anyone wanting to head to Virginia Beach for a vacation? The months of March, April, and October are usually less crowded and the hotels are at lower rates. But be warned, March & April the ocean may still be a bit chilly. October though you still have warm waters! Just no sign of lifeguards. Today though people were in the water! Swimmers, surfers and kids playing around. It was kinda awesome!
The hubby did his thing and I did mine. We run at different paces and I do the whole run/walk/run so we went separate ways once we were there. But it was absolutely beautiful! Temps hit the 80’s, sunny with a nice cool breeze, perfect run weather!
My legs are starting to gain strength and I’m pretty happy with the day. I’m not even worried about running right now. It’s all about building endurance and strengthening my legs. And of course conditioning these lungs of mine. Four packs of cigarettes a day does some serious damage. Quit NOW, if you smoke. That damage just increases as time goes by. So happy I quit and never going back.
Days like today make me so thankful I quit smoking. Breathing the fresh air, smoke free is profoundly different. And smelling the ocean breeze, yeah that’s good stuff!
On the starting line nonetheless. Maybe you’re facing your first 5k. Maybe it’s a ten. Maybe a half, or a marathon, or an ultra. Maybe you’re even running Boston.
Waiting on that starting line, you’re beginning to feel it. The anticipation, the doubt, the excitement, the energy. The definitiveness of what’s behind. The uncertainty of what’s ahead.
It hasn’t been easy. There have been workouts that tanked. Weeks with missed mileage. Tired legs. Hard sessions. The daily dance of life vs. the plan.
But there have been great moments too. The decision to race. The dedication to train. Miles where you felt like you could run forever. Even the bravery of this morning, where you put on your singlet, fought the crowds, and met your fate at the starting line.
And now it’s here. It is time. No more countdowns. No more workouts to nail. No more wondering, “Am I fit enough? Strong enough? Prepared for what’s ahead?”
This is what you have been waiting for. No doubt you are nervous, but know that you are ready. You earned this opportunity. And you were born to fly.
So, take a deep breath, look around you, and soak it all in. Relish where you are. Realize how far you’ve come.
