Would You Rather Book Tag!

books1-796x471

Saw this over at Starring Pamela (a pretty awesome blog, you should go check it out!) and decided to give it a go….

Would you rather: a series or a standalone?

I don’t read a lot, unless I am. Which means when I do decide to, I want to be fully immersed in a story, a world and the characters. So for that reason I much prefer a series.

Would you rather: read only female authors or only male authors?

I have no preference at all.

Would you rather: shop at Barnes & Noble or Amazon?

Either. But I do love going in to B&N to browse the shelves and find something I have yet to discover. I could spend hours!

Would you rather: all book adaptations become movies or tv shows?

Movies. Movies tend to be bigger and with substantially larger budgets. And since I love the series type books I also enjoy series movies (Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings, etc…) Although I think Game Of Thrones has done equally well with both, I think Walking Dead is very splintered. I’m actually happy I didn’t read the comics first.

Would you rather: read 5 pages a week or 5 books a week?

5 pages. I like to stay with a story a while. I become attached. Unless of course it’s a series and even then I like to take my time.

Would you rather: be a professional book reviewer or a professional author?

Hmm, author because I’m picky about what I do read.

Would you rather: only read your top 20 books over and over again or always read a new book?

I am a re-reader for sure. Like I said, I become attached

Would you rather: be a librarian or book seller?

Book seller for sure. I’d love to dabble in older books or comics. Very eclectic and eccentric!

Would you rather: read only from your favorite genre or read anything but your favorite genre?

I am pretty stuck in specific genre. Horror, mystery, science fiction mostly. I do love personal development books and some poetry too.

Would you rather: read physical books or ebooks?

Physical. I like the feel and the smell, yep I’m one of those people.

Feel free to snag the graphic and link back too, I’d love to read yours if you do this! No tagging, I’d love you all to join in!

Rapid Fire Book Tag: It was originally made by #GirlReading, so  stop by and check her out on her Youtube. Big thanks to James @ this-is-my-truth-now for posting this and letting people swipe it 😉

Question 1: E-Book or Physical Book?

I’m one of those who love the feel of a book in my hands, turning pages, the paper & ink scent. But it’s easier to kindle, so I do both. Depends where and when I read

Question 2 : Paperback or Hardback?

Paperbacks generally. They’re lighter weight and more compact. Easier to hold too. But for a series, or book I adore, I get hardback. I have these series in hardback; Harry Potter, The Vampire Chronicles and my Tolkein.

Question 3 : Online or In-Store Book Shopping?

Usually the bookstore, unless I know a release date and pre-order through amazon. I love roaming the bookstore. I love that so many have cafe/coffee shops in them now!

Question 4 : Trilogies or Series?

Either/Both

Question 5 : Heroes or Villains?

I prefer characters that are a little of both. I really like when a villain becomes a hero.

Question 6 : A book you want everyone to read?

The Four Agreements By: don Miguel Ruiz. I’m very into personal development and this book/series is beautiful and profound!

Question 7 : Recommend an underrated book?

Ummmm

Question 8 : The last book you finished?

Girl On The Train – It actually took me forever to get through this. I think I’m one of few who just wasn’t captivated and hooked.

Question 9 :The Last Book(s) You Bought?

Ego Is The Enemy – Currently reading, and loving!

Question 10 : Weirdest Thing You’ve Used as a Bookmark?

Yes, and library books!

Question 12 : Top Three Favorite Genres?

Horror (not slasher), Mystery, Personal Development, Cookbooks (ok 4)

Question 13 : Borrow or Buy?

Buy usually, unless it’s my occasional trip to the library. Then, when done if I don’t like the book that much, I donate to the library.

Question 14 : Characters or Plot?

Plot is what keeps me reading

Question 15 : Long or Short Books?

Short to middle ground. Long books, I lose interest and usually have to go back and start again.

Question 16 : Long or Short Chapters?

Short

Question 17 : Name The First Three Books You Think Of…

It By: Stephen King

Edgar Allen Poe: Complete Tales and Poems By: Edgar Allen Poe

Prince Lestat By:Anne Rice

Question 18 : Books That Makes You Laugh or Cry?

Cry. I’m oddly not that into comedy. Not even on TV or with movies.

Question 19 : Our World or Fictional Worlds?

Def fictional worlds, or worlds based on history of our world

Question 20 : Audiobooks: Yes or No?

Nope, they put me to sleep

Question 21 : Do You Ever Judge a Book by its Cover?

I suppose. But I’m more of an author follower so…

Question 22 : Book to Movie or Book to TV Adaptations?

Hmmm, movie. Bigger than life, ya know?

Question 23 : A Movie or TV-Show You Preferred to its Book?

I’m not sure I preferred the movie adaption, but I thought Lord of the Rings was just as good in both formats. (I agree with James on this)

Question 24 : Series or Standalone?

Series def!

I am not tagging anyone specifically as this is the kind of tag everyone should do. So please jump on this little bandwagon! I expect at least 5 people to go for it! 🙂

My 10 Books of Summer List!

editor-reading-on-the-beach

I’m doing the #10BooksOfSummer 📒☀️ challenge! It’s a reading challenge hosted each year by Cathy from 746 Books blog. She set herself a challenge to read 20 books between June 1st to September 3rd for this year. We can all join in if we want, and you don’t have to set your reading goals for 10 books like I did, you can also choose 15 or 20 (she supplies the graphic on her page to save to your own pc). She’s apparently easy on the rules too. So if you want to change it up you can, want to go from 10 to 20 books, go for it, etc…

You can also share your 📘reading progress on Twitter with the hashtag #10BooksOf Summer, #15BooksOf Summer OR #20BooksOfSummer, as well as giving Cathy updates on your progress. This is an awesome way to get to reading those books you always say you want to read and never quite get too.

My list is a combo of the Game Of Thrones series of books + personal development books that have been recommended to me, but I keep slacking to read. I’m likely reading 2 at a time, in the order you see them in here. I figure one can be my beach/pool side⛱ reading the other can be part of my morning 🌅 (personal development) to get my day started on the right foot!

If you click on the links to each book you can get a description. My Goodreads is really neglected. I don’t keep up with it ha, so sorry if it’s a bit weak as far as being a book nerd goes. I’ll be updating my reviews here on this page and on Goodreads (at least that’s the plan)!

ps…I prefer real books over reading from my kindle. I’m one of those weirdo’s 🤓

🌞 Are you doing any summer challenges?

Book Recommendations

735566_327743640674232_305082147_on.jpg

I’ve read a lot more than what I’m putting here and that I’d recommend. As far as fiction, I’m a big fan of Anne Rice, Stephen King and Eckhart Toll. Fiction I love spooky and mysterious reading. I’m very into personal development reading and occasionally like comics (think Neil Gaiman/Sandman). And of course books on nutrition, food, and running always catch my eye!  And I’m not going to review them because I don’t like giving it away like that. If you haven’t read just them, give them a try! I’ll update this page from now on as I read and find new books I liked enough to recommend. Happy reading!

If We Were Having Coffee

Health and living life to it’s fullest has been on my mind a lot lately. As well as self improvement and not being lazy about it.

Life is such a balancing act isn’t it?Like a huge puzzle that takes time to interlock all the right pieces to make us whole. Lately I’ve been trying to retrace steps that were effective and long lasting for my health. And to dabble in and experiment with new things to make life more alive, longer and more fun. I’m trying to  gain inner peace and add excitement to every day living.

It’s a goal I guess,  many of us have. Finding harmony between the, physical, emotional, personal and professional aspects of our lives. We all seek to enrich our lives and too often we fall back into the easy immediate gratification ways to do that. And more often than not, doing so knocks the harmony we are so eagerly trying to achieve, off balance.

I’ve thought that a doughnut will make me feel better. And yeah, it will for a moment. And while there may be nothing (fundamentally) wrong with having a doughnut once in a while, it’s going for that doughnut as gratification for something else that’s lacking. Now there’s where my problem is.

I’ve been one of those people. And more than once in my life. Let’s face it, life can be hard. Life can suck and it can kick your feet right out from under you once in a while. Life has moments of being unfair and ruthless. But I, we don’t have to let those moments defeat or define us.

We work with food and exercise to care for our physical selves. But we need to remember, to care for our emotional self. Meditation has been a life saver for me with this. Meditation calms me. Meditation awakens my mind to new ideas and ways of tackling challenges in life. I seem to get the most out of meditation when I am in nature,  near wildlife. Nature allows me to focus and exhale the crap from my mind.

In this ever changing modern world filled with the latest technology it becomes increasingly important to unplug and not just go to nature but be a part of the whole experience. The more I focus on the intricacies of a tree, or moving stream, roar of the ocean, or habits of wildlife in their environment, the easier it is when it comes to narrowing down focus on my day to day matters. You’ve heard the phrase, “don’t sweat the small stuff”, haven’t you? Well, meditation reminds me what the small stuff is and allows me to focus on what matters most.

To gain perspective….

“There are so many joys to be gathered watching wildlife and one of the greatest is when we feel we have blended into the landscape and become part of the day, night, or ecosystem. Our pursuit of the little details of nature – a species of moth or a type of birdsong – are intrinsically pleasurable but they are also sense sharpers, that bring us alive to the possibilities in a landscape: the muntjac standing quietly behind us, the crackle of autumn leaves, the pong of the honey fungus.

They give us an excuse to loiter in a landscape, to stand still and simply be. They are a pathway to a much broader experience. On my nights out, I realised I was not really badger watching at all, I was dusk watching, listening to the creatures of the day as they were superseded by the creatures of the night, with their rustles and screams and unfathomable signals which I did not comprehend but could still savour.” ~ Patrick Barkham

Being near the ocean is my favorite place to meditate, or just BE.  The sound of the waves, the ocean mist on my face, the sun warming my skin, just basking in the hugeness that is the vast ocean expanse. I feel re-charged and ready to tackle life after a day at the ocean and bit of meditation.

Meditation is kind of like a vacation re-boot for my inner well being. It’s so hard for people to shut off and out of technology these days our minds never stop thinking about a zillion things at once. Letting nature in and becoming a part of me levels the playing field and mentally refreshes me.

In the past I’ve focused wayyyy to much on calories and DIEts! What what I need to focus on is loving myself enough to not want to injure my health with foods or really, non foods that are in no way adding to my longevity or health. We should all try and find a healthy relationship with real food. Over the years as consumers we’ve added more and more unnatural garbage into our diets. Fruit which is naturally sweet, to some doesn’t even taste sweet anymore because we are so used to manufactured cakes, deserts and artificial sweeteners. We lose sight of the fact that sugar is in everything that pre-packaged and mass produced and white sugar is as addictive as drugs if used often and in larger quantities.

I’m learning the process of mindful eating which is helping me so much in terms of combating the unhealthy relationships I’ve learned over the years. Learning to love myself with the food I put in my body instead of just comforting myself with food because of external stresses has been HUGE in permanent change in eating habits. Mindful eating makes me slow down and focus on why I do what I do and how it makes me feel. Usually your body will tell you if you ate something good for it, or something that would cause an adverse reaction. Here’s a better explanation of mindful eating if you’re interested in knowing more.

I’ve also decided to go back to having a meal replacement shake and or green juice/smoothie daily.  I overeat at night because I don’t eat right during the day. I don’t get enough vitamins and minerals because I usually have little appetite during the day. A few years ago I tested out quite a few protein shakes. My favorite for flavor, texture, and overall health benefits is Vegan Shakeology. And I tried a zillion of them. So between that in the afternoon with a salad and vegetarian protein and juicing or acai bowl in the mornings I will be sure to get my dose of vitamins and minerals. And also will stop overeating at dinner and going to bed on a stuffed tummy!  Sometimes you have to re-learn your proven lessons more than once lol.  It’s all about finding out what works for you. What will keep you healthy, help you live longer and help you achieve whatever goals you set!

I love rainy days! Sitting down with a cup of tea  (or coffee 😊☕) and pouring myself into a good book is an amazing day! I’m currently reading (finally Girl On a Train and after that I am doing Prince Lestat & Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis and them move onto The Wolf Gift. I’m a HUGE Anne Rice fan!  But I’m always looking for new reads so recommend a book to me and have a beautiful Sunday and fabulous week!
